BAR 1620 Dartmouth

THE NAME

The story begins in 1620... Two sailing ships, The Mayflower & Speedwell, left the UK for faraway shores
with t​he first settlers to cross the Atlantic seeking out new lives and adventures in the promised land.
Both ships were moored here on the River Dart whilst repairs were made to the Speedwell,
these visiting ships leaving Dartmouth forever imprinted on the historical map.

THE LOCATION

Bar 1620 is located in the heart of the beautiful river town of Dartmouth in the South Hams. 
Just off the south embankment river front, Bar 1620 is housed in the original post office sorting office, 
it is almost a secret to the untrained eye.
A quirky space with vaulted ceiling and stylishly decorated to create laid back sophistication,
it is a mecca for all things cocktail, spirit, wine & beer related.
Also serving ice cold lagers, IPA’s and cider on draft,
along with a great selection of​bottled craft beers from around the world. 
The wine list may be small in size but it's BIG in taste and provides delicious choices, with house selections
​and guest bottles, and is complimented by a fantastic range of sparkling wines and champagnes.

THE TEAM

Kate, Rich and a teeny Billy Baker started life in Dartmouth in 2004, opening a little cocktail bar which went on to be well-known as "Bakers" , the first bar in Dartmouth to sell Champagne by the glass, serving fabulous cocktails and Veuve Cliquot by the bucketload!  They quickly got a bit of a name for themselves for being THE place to socialise in Dartmouth - a tiny bar located out of the centre of Dartmouth, how would it survive? Well survive it did, and it became the ideal destination for cocktails and fabulous ambiance.  Another mini Baker, Frankie, arrived on the scene in 2006 and it became apparent that the antisocial hours of bar ownership were not conducive to raising little Bakers. When they were approached by some locals to buy the business from them they decided to pass on the baton, and in 2007 they hung up their cocktailing hats, or at least rested them...until now!  The mini Bakers are now Big Bakers, and Billy is now a fully fledged DJ and old enough to help serve the pints!  This latest project was to transform an existing business, and recreate the passion and ambiance of a bar that is so fondly remembered by locals and regular visitors to Dartmouth, a grown-up "Bakers", we now introduce to you Bar 1620 Dartmouth!
